Message from the MCSM President
The Important Work of Mathematics Leaders
Our public schools are in the midst of significant change during this first quarter of the 21st century.Research from the past 20 years have reached the hearts and minds of school-based leaders on the topics of:
Effective instructional approaches
Student engagement
Growth and Fixed Mindsets
College and Career Readiness
World-class standards
As has always been the case, mathematics draws significant public attention. This provides us opportunities to educate beyond the walls of the schools on the importance of (for instance) conceptual understanding; however it also puts unneeded stresses on us that could lead to decisions that are not in the best interests of our students.
The Maryland Council of Supervisors of Mathematics encourages a collaborative effort (both) from and for all stakeholders in the mathematics educational community. Our strength resides in our ability to grow and learn together for the benefit of all of us and for our teachers, students, administrators, and math coaches.
MCSM welcomes all educators involved in the decisions that guide our mathematics programs as well as the people that work with mathematics teachers. You needn’t necessary be in a “supervisor” role to join MCSM.Your voice helps all of us.
Peter Cincotta President, Maryland Council of Supervisors of Mathematics
