The Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) is a public voice of mathematics education, inspiring vision, providing leadership, offering professional development, and supporting equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students.
Southern Region Workshop: March 14, 2026 (yes - Pi Day!)
The Southern Region of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics will be hosting a half-day workshop from 8:00 AM - noon on March 14, 2026! The workshop will be held at Margaret J Thornton Elementary School in White Plains, Charles County (5860 St. David Drive White Plains, MD 20695)

MCTM Outstanding Educator Awards - Nominations needed
Please consider nominating a colleague or former student for a Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics award. This year MCTM will be honoring individuals and/or co-teaching pairs in each of the following categories. The criteria for each award category is listed below:
*Sixth grade teachers in a K-8 school will be considered for Middle School Mathematics unless they teach all subjects.
*NOTE: If nominating a co-teaching pair, both teachers must meet the criteria specified above.
We are looking for each district to nominate excellent candidates. So, we are asking for initial nominations (including self-nominations) to be submitted using this Google form https://tinyurl.com/mctmawards2026 by February 15, 2026. Candidates will then be notified by e-mail that they have been nominated. Candidates will be required to complete and submit application materials by March 15th. Finalists will then be notified and required to submit a video by May 8th.
- Beginning Mathematics Teacher
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has taught mathematics no more than 2 years
- Elementary Teacher (P-5)
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has been teaching elementary mathematics for at least three years
- Middle School Mathematics Teacher (6-8)*
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has been teaching middle school mathematics for at least three years
- High School Mathematics Teacher (9-12)
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has been teaching high school mathematics for at least three years
- College Educator
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has been teaching college-level mathematics and/or mathematics education
- Mathematics Leader
- Is a member of MCTM
- Has served as a mathematics coach, district/school leader, and/or individual that provides ongoing support to educators to support professional growth for at least three years
