The Banneker Banner
The Official Journal of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The Banneker Banner is the official journal of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The journal is named after Benjamin Banneker, a Maryland native and perhaps the first documented African-American mathematician. The Banner is published twice each year and contains a wide range of articles on issues in mathematics education at all levels. Articles published in the journal must be submitted to the editor and undergo a peer review process. The Banner also accepts advertising from companies that provide goods or services that may be of interest to MCTM members. Advertising in the Banner is an affordable way to reach hundreds of Maryland mathematics educators.

Submission Guidelines: The Banner welcomes submissions from all members of the mathematics education community, not just MCTM members. All submissions should be relevant, interesting, and useful to teachers of mathematics in Maryland.
Most submissions fit one of these three genres, but other formats are welcome:

Review Process: Manuscripts are sent out to other mathematics educators for anonymous review, and this process often takes several months. If you have questions about the status of your manuscript during this time, please feel free to contact the editor, Karen Terrell at [email protected].
Photographs: Please note that photographs require signed releases to be published; if your article is accepted, it will be your responsibility to get the appropriate signatures. A sample release form can be found here. Other forms are acceptable. Questions: If you have any questions, please contact the journal editor, Karen Terrell at [email protected]. |
