Equity, Access, and Opportunity: Advancing Maryland Mathematics
We will focus on PreK–12 Maryland Mathematics Policy and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, both of which call for high-quality, equitable mathematics instruction that supports every learner. Our sessions center on student identity, how to broaden access to rigorous content, and sharing innovative practices that move math teaching forward—especially for those historically underserved. Whether you’re working with students, supporting educators, or reimagining systems, this is your opportunity to learn to advance mathematics education in Maryland. Our program will offer a variety of session topics including content-focused sessions, instructional strategies, classroom assessment techniques, addressing the needs of learners, mathematics coaching and leadership for K-12 teachers as well as Math Educators from Maryland's Two- and Four-Year Colleges and Universities.

A classroom timeline for implementation will be described, as well the policy's goal of catalyzing improvements to teaching, learning, and achievement in mathematics across all grades in Maryland.

A Right to Education: Teaching Maryland's Detained and Committed Youth
Juvenile Services Education Program educates justice-involved youth throughout Maryland. To provide access to students from diverse backgrounds, JSEP created math curricula using the van Hiele model. This tiered approach advances learning by providing multiple entry points for lessons. Join presenter Nina Riggs and hear about the curriculum design, implementation, and successes of this program.

2025 MCTM Summer Elementary Academy -
MCTM is once again holding its Virtual Summer Elementary Academy. This year's session runs from Monday June 23 - Friday June 27th. Each daily session runs from 9:00 AM - 4:00 pm.
Registration is currently CLOSED. Registration is $155 for MCTM members and $175 for MCTM non-members (that includes a one year membership to MCTM). For more information, please see this flier.

Sustaining Community: Finding Our Way Back to What Matters Most
The Maryland math teaching community has a long history of collaborating to foster best practices for teachers and students. Our mission for the 2024 Conference is that participants will experience the power of an in-person community to fuel an awakening of what matters most to them personally and professionally.

The MCTM 2024 Coaching Conference

"Coaching to Amplify Students' Mathematical Thinking"
The conference will have presenters from multiple districts across the DMV area. It will have taped opening remarks from Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms and a keynote from Latrenda Knighten, the President Elect of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
The Conference is only $60 for non-members (this includes a yearlong membership to MCTM), $40 for members, and $20 for presenters.

What: Daily Routines to Jump-Start Problem Solving
Teaching problem solving is hard. It is about helping students learn to make sense, think, and reason. Problem solving cannot be delivered but instead it is developed through engagement and discussion. In this workshop, participants learn how to do just that through engaging instructional problem-solving routines. The session features classroom-ready resources and practical, doable instructional strategies.

Come and learn strategies that will cultivate a growth mindset and help your students make sense of mathematics. We will explore classroom routines that promote reasoning and estimation skills. We will practice analyzing, modifying, and creating tasks to use with our students. We will use models and manipulatives to explore fraction concepts and operations. You will walk away with ideas you can implement immediately. The focus will include elementary content; however, strategies can be applied more broadly.
