Using the Numeracy Development Framework for Planning, Monitoring, and Family Partnership

This session provides an overview of Maryland's Numeracy Development Framework (NDF) and its role in supporting coherent, focused progress toward mathematical college and career readiness. Participants will examine how the NDF articulates essential end-of-year competency milestones across mathematical domains and how it functions alongside standards and high-quality instructional materials.

Using Standards Companion Guides to Support Coherent Grade-Level Instruction

This session provides an overview of the revised PreK-8 Maryland College and Career Ready Standards by highlighting major content shifts and increased clarity around grade-level expectations. Particular attention will be given to the Standards Companion Guides and their role in supporting implementation.

MSDE Standards Shift
Join representatives from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Mathematics Branch as they provide an overview of significant shifts associated with the new Maryland Prek-12 Mathematics Policy, adopted on March 25, 2025. A classroom timeline for implementation will be described, as well the policy's goal of catalyzing improvements to teaching, learning, and achievement in mathematics across all grades in Maryland.

A Right to Education: Teaching Maryland's Detained and Committed Youth 
Juvenile Services Education Program educates justice-involved youth throughout Maryland. To provide access to students from diverse backgrounds, JSEP created math curricula using the van Hiele model. This tiered approach advances learning by providing multiple entry points for lessons. Join presenter Nina Riggs and hear about the curriculum design, implementation, and successes of this program.
